City of Fairfax School Board Hires Dr. Phyllis Pajardo for Superintendent Search

City of Fairfax Schools Announces Dr. Phyllis Pajardo to Lead Superintendent Search

The City of Fairfax School Board is pleased to announce that Dr. Phyllis Pajardo has been selected to lead the search for the next superintendent of City of Fairfax Schools. Dr. Pajardo brings a wealth of experience to this important role, having previously served as superintendent of the City of Fairfax Schools and holding extensive leadership roles in human resources and administration. Her deep understanding of the city and its schools makes her uniquely qualified to guide this process.

To watch Dr. Pajardo present a timeline and answer questions from the board, please watch the special meeting on Monday, August 4 on the City's website

This announcement follows the retirement of Superintendent Jeff Platenberg on July 31. Dan Phillips, Assistant Superintendent, has been named Acting Superintendent during the transition.

To ensure the community’s voice is reflected in the search, the City of Fairfax School Board will host two community engagement opportunities:

  • In-Person Community Engagement Meeting
    Monday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m.
    Fairfax High School Library

  • Virtual Community Engagement Meeting
    Wednesday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m.
(Details will be posted on our website)

Community members are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts on the qualities and priorities they would like to see in the next superintendent.

In addition, a community survey will be available online starting the week of August 11 at www.engage.fairfax.gov.
