School Board Bios

School Board Chair Carolyn Pitches

 

Carolyn Pitches is serving her seventh term as a School Board member and has been chair since 2018. She served as vice chair of the Fairfax City School Board for six years and is the Fairfax City Schools representative to the Washington Area Boards of Education. During her tenure as a math teacher in Prince William County Public Schools, she was awarded the Teacher of Excellence Award for Prince William County Public Schools. She also served as co-chair on two Prince William County Public Schools committees: the Substance Abuse Committee (Core Team) and the At-Risk Committee, where she planned, designed, and wrote grants to provide a program for students in need of additional support. Ms. Pitches received her B.A. in K-8 Elementary Education from Virginia Tech and a Master's in K-12 Education from George Mason University.

 

 

School Board Member Amit Hickman (Vice Chair)
 
Amit Hickman is serving her first term on the City of Fairfax School Board and her first term as vice chair. She is the education director for a local non-profit early childhood program where she has worked for over 15 years. Ms. Hickman served on the Daniels Run Elementary School PTA as vice president of fundraising and as president. She is also a member of the City of Fairfax Neighborhood Readiness Team. Hickman holds a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction from George Mason University and is currently pursuing her Master of Social Work, also at GMU. 
 
Ms. Hickman and her husband have been city residents for the past 10 years and live with their three school-aged children in the Old Lee Hills Neighborhood. 
 
 
 

School Board Member Stacy Hall

 

Stacy Hall is serving her first term as a City of Fairfax school board member. She is a past PTA president and vice president of membership at Providence Elementary School. At Providence ES, she also ran the PTA book fair for several years. She is an active board member and treasurer of the Cobbdale Civic Association. Ms. Hall graduated from the University of Delaware with a bachelor's degree in finance with minors in economics and biology. She currently works as a controller in the private sector. 

 

Ms. Hall moved to the City of Fairfax in 2011 and she and her husband have two children in Fairfax City schools. 

 

 

 

School Board Member Sarah Kelsey

 

Sarah Kelsey is serving her first term on the City of Fairfax School Board. She has also served as secretary and membership chair for the Mosby Woods Community Association, classroom representative for the Lord of Life Preschool Board, and three years as the book fair chair for the Providence Elementary School PTA.

 

Mrs. Kelsey grew up in Kansas City, Missouri where she taught elementary school and special education for ten years. She has taught preschool since moving to the City of Fairfax with her husband, two children, and dog.  Mrs. Kelsey received her B.A. in elementary education K-6 from Northwest Missouri State University and a Master in Special Education from University of Kansas.

 

 

 

School Board Member Rachel McQuillen

 

Rachel McQuillen is serving her first term as a City of Fairfax school board member. She and her husband have two children who both proudly attend Fairfax City Schools. She has served as the Providence Elementary School PTA secretary from 2015 to 2021 and the Providence Elementary School PTA spirit wear chair from 2018 to 2022. She has also been a Westmore Neighborhood Association block representative since 2015 and is a notary public for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mrs. McQuillen worked in the accounting and finance industry for over ten years before starting her own small business. Mrs. McQuillen earned her bachelor's degree in marketing from the George Mason University School of Business.
