Guidelines and Procedures for Speaking Before the City of Fairfax School Board
 
The City of Fairfax School Board welcomes public input. Community members may share comments in the following ways:
 
  • Speak in person at a Regular School Board meeting
  • Submit written comments by email
 
Speak at a Meeting
Individuals who wish to speak during General Public Comment at a Regular School Board Meeting or during a Public Hearing are encouraged to sign up in advance by calling 703-293-9131. Sign-up may also be available at the meeting prior to the start time.
 
If you need accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), please call 703-293-9131.
 
When You Speak
  • Speakers are asked to state their name and home address for the record.
  • Each speaker is typically provided up to three (3) minutes.
  • If you are bringing printed materials to share with the School Board, please provide 14 copies when possible.

Please note that written comments received by the School Board or School Board staff may be considered part of the public record and may be subject to disclosure under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
 
Respectful Participation
The City of Fairfax School Board values constructive, respectful public input.
  • Please be courteous and respectful of differing viewpoints.
  • Profane, threatening, or harassing language is not permitted.
  • Please avoid applause, interruptions, or audible reactions during meetings.
If your comments have already been shared by another speaker, a brief statement of support is welcome.

Most School Board Meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. and held in the Fairfax City Hall, Room 110/111.
