New School Board Sworn In to Start 2023 - 2025 Term

History was made on Monday, January 9, 2023 as an all-female school board was sworn in before the regular school board meeting.

Carolyn Pitches, Amit Hickman, Stacy Hall, Sarah Kelsey, and Rachel McQuillen began their two-year term. Ms. Pitches, chair of the board, is the only member from the previous board. The board was elected in November, the first fall election in the City of Fairfax, following a state mandate to align elections with national or state elections.

Hickman, Hall, Kelsey, and McQuillen all have students in a City of Fairfax School. Each of the five members have been active on PTA boards and city committees. In her remarks to the family members after being sworn in, Pitches thanked city community members and families, and told the crowd the board is "dedicated to providing excellent facilities and advocating for our students with Fairfax County Public Schools through our School Services Agreement."

The board quickly got to work. They honored the Virginia state champion Fairfax HS field hockey team, heard a presentation about foreign languages at FHS, and approved the  FY2024 budget
