Fifth grade students from Ms. Kylie Horn’s class at Daniels Run Elementary School recently visited George Mason University to deliver handwritten notes of encouragement to college students preparing for final exams. The visit was part of an effort to promote acts of kindness while providing elementary students with early exposure to a college campus.
During the visit, Daniels Run students distributed personal messages wishing GMU students good luck on their finals. The gesture was warmly received and offered a moment of encouragement for university students during a demanding time of year.
In addition to their outreach, the elementary students participated in a campus-wide scavenger hunt, designed to familiarize them with key landmarks and provide insight into college life. The visit concluded with a pizza lunch and soccer on a grassy area as they watched GMU students go to classes.
“This initiative provided our students with the chance to see what higher education can look like while also engaging in a meaningful act of service,” said Superintendent Jeff Platenberg. “We are grateful to George Mason University for their partnership and to the Daniels Run ES staff for creating opportunities that inspire future aspirations and foster community connection.”
