The group includes Melanie George (photo, right) and Sam McNaughton (photo, right), who will continue their basketball reign together, both attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. Peter Makin (right) will swim for Auburn University. There are two students playing two sports – Katie Nahom will play field hockey and run track at Frostburg State and Alex Kingston will play football and lacrosse at King’s College. Basketball player Christian Lewis has signed to be a part of the inaugural team at Mary Baldwin University.
Each year Fairfax High School Director of Student Activities Nancy Melnick celebrates the students athletes who will have signed to play at the collegiate level. This year was no different, but the celebration was modified and from a distance. On Wednesday, May 8th at 8:20 (20:20 in military time) FHS turned on all the lights of all the fields and flashed the names on the score board.
"We are extremely proud of the 25 students athletes who have committed to playing their sport at the collegiate level this coming fall," said Melnick. "Each one of our students have been top notch academically, athletically, and positive role models at FHS. There is no doubt in my mind that each one of our student athletes is prepared for the next chapter in their lives!"
