Welcome Back to the 2020-2021 school year from the City of Fairfax School Board Chairman, Ms. Carolyn Pitches.

Hello to everyone in the City of Fairfax School Community. My name is Carolyn Pitches and I am the Chairman of the City of Fairfax School Board. As we all know this year is unlike any other. The Global Covid-19 pandemic has shaken the foundation of everything we've relied upon and we are now navigating our way through this new time. For many students schools are a second home, a safe place to discover passions, and to grow into the adults they want to be. This year, while we will not be able to begin with the physical doors open, I want everyone to know our schools will continue to dedicate themselves to connecting with your child and working to develop not only their educational needs, but their emotional and social development needs as well. The past spring and summer has been a trying time for all of us and our school administrators and teachers are no different. Many of the staff working in our schools are parents themselves and have had to reinvent what it means to educate kids. They have been tirelessly working on the best way to fulfill the needs of our students. I want to personally thank our administrators and teachers for their hard work to ensure the best and safest way to begin the school year. As a reminder, the City of Fairfax has a unique partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools. Through a contract, the four City schools are owned by the City of Fairfax, while Fairfax County Public Schools provide educational services. The agreement is beneficial to both City and County students. If you are a city resident, the City of Fairfax School Board is your voice to Fairfax County Public Schools. We encourage our residents to watch our monthly school board meetings, follow us on social media, go to our website to let us know their opinion so we can best advocate for our 3000 City students and our city.
