The City of Fairfax School Board is committed to increasing the academic achievement of all of our students, strengthening the climate in which student learning takes place, and expanding our faculty’s professional learning communities to further enhance learning and achievement.
Congratulations to Providence Elementary School Principal Jesse Kraft, who on May 11 was awarded the 2010 Nancy F. Sprague Outstanding First Year Principal of the Year.
Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jack Dale surprised Kraft with the honor at 2:30 p.m.
“Your letters of nomination say you value staff, students, and parents, as evidenced in your interactions, your support, and feedback on learning, and through the respect you show by taking a sincere interest in daily classroom activities,” Dr. Dale said of Kraft. “Parents know you care about the community and you are open to new suggestions and ideas. Your personal values, genuine attitude, high level of commitment, and spirited energy are felt daily throughout the school. You are a valued administrator whose commitment to excellence is without question.”
“Wow,” said Kraft with a huge grin. “I simply can’t believe it.”
“The City School Board applauds the selection of Jesse Kraft,” says School Board Chairman Janice Miller. “He has stepped into the principalship at Providence with confidence, skill and hard work. He’s won the admiration of his staff, parents and students.”
About Jesse Kraft
Kraft began his teaching career in 1996 as a 3rd grade teacher at Newington Forest Elementary. In his nine years there, Jesse taught 4th and 6th grade and served as a “Great Beginnings” coach supporting new teachers during their first-year in FCPS.
In 2001, he achieved National Board Certification, and in 2004 was nominated for the prestigious FCPS Teacher of the Year award. Kraft then became the assistant principal at Westlawn Elementary in Falls Church in 2005, and in 2007 was the AP at Oak Hill Elementary School.
