About Close-Up Newsletter

City School Close-Up is a newsletter that has been published since 2001 by the City of Fairfax School Board. Its mission is to give the 23,844 residents and 14,269 business owners and employees in the City of Fairfax a glimpse into the wonderful accomplishments happening in the four City Schools: Providence Elementary, Daniels Run Elementary, Lanier Middle School and Fairfax High.

Close-Up has won several awards from the National Schools Public Relations Association (NSPRA). In 2004, the City Schools Close-Up won the Award of Excellence from the for three issues that were published that year: Fairfax High makes Newsweek magazine’s Top 100 List, The SOLs: What do those scores really mean?, No Child Left Behind: What you need to know. In 2007, Close-Up won another NSPRA Award of Excellence for its four-part series, Building Blocks: What your child needs to know to succeed in school K-12.
